The Road to DEMO [Scrapmageddon Devlog #4]
DISCLAIMER: All Scrapmageddon images are W.I.P. and heavily subject to change, NOT representative of the final product.
I am happy to announce that the demo for Scrapmageddon will be available SoonTM!
What will be in the demo?
Most core game functionality will be present, but a lot of it will be in the early stages, with more depth being added in the future.
Scrapping:
Grab your wrench and get to work! Smashing car parts will yield resources vital to your survival. Gather scrap and bring it back to your base to craft ammo, weapons, and more. Don't forget to make some room!
Exploration:
Leave your base during the day to find cars to scrap and various points of interest to explore. POIs may contain resources you can't get by bashing a car to pieces, like ingredients needed in cooking recipes. Just watch out for wandering alien patrols who might want a piece!
Combat:
Make sure you bring lots of ammo once night comes, because when the sun goes down, the aliens come out. Fight for your life as they attack you from all directions, I hope you remembered to set up your defenses, because they'll push them to the limits.
Additionally, the demo will include more varied terrain and environmental props, rather than being an empty, flat plane.
What will be in the full game?
The full game will include many features not available in the demo such as:
- Progression: defeat bosses to unlock new resources allowing you to scrap and kill more efficiently. Unlock new tools, weapons, traps, and more.
- Cooking: whip up a meal to give yourself bonuses to your stats including increased stamina, move speed, and health. Consider what you'll be doing before you eat something. It might be better to have more stamina if you're going to be running around during the day, but having extra health might be more important at night.
- More weapons and tools: you'll have a wide variety of tools to deal with the wider variety of threats that will come at you as you progress in this wasteland.
- Improved visuals: weather effects, lighting, post processing, and more to help you put yourself in the shoes of a survivor fighting against relentless armies of killing machines.
- More depth to existing mechanics: crafting will involve several new resources, different cars will have different scrap yields, combat will be much more involved than aiming and clicking.
- Story elements: craft items to let you explore new areas and uncover secrets. Scrapmageddon will have multiple endings (two planned) and how much you explore will directly correlate to how the story unfolds.
When will the demo be available?
Assuming everything goes somewhat smoothly, the demo will be available in 2-3 months with all of the features mentioned in the first section and improved visuals across the board. No more gray cubes! I'll continue to make devlogs every Saturday with updates regarding the state of the game and what I've been working on. Stay tuned in to stay up to date, hopefully I don't anger an ACTUAL alien race, causing them to hack the game, turning every model into gman, and every texture into gummy worms.
Thanks for reading, see you all in the next one
